Water Baptism is one of our Ten Core Values at Word of Life San Francisco.
WHAT IS WATER BAPTISM?
There are six things about baptism we'd like you to know:An ILLUSTRATION : Baptism illustrated the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.A PROCLAMATION: Baptism is making a public proclamation that you are a Christian. An IDENTIFICATION: Baptism is a way of identifying yourself as a follower of Christ. An ASSOCIATION: Baptism is a way of sharing in the same experience as other Christians and connecting with them through the church.A LIBERATION: Baptism is symbolic of our freedom from sin; the old is passed, a new life has come.An IMPARTATION: As the Holy Spirit came upon Jesus when He was baptized, we too can receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
WHO SHOULD BE WATER BAPTIZED?Everyone who has accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Lord & Savior should be baptized. In the same way a bride and groom wear wedding bands to show their love and commitment to one another, baptism is the Christian's oppourtunity to show others that they are followers of Christ. We believe that a person can only receive salvation by placing their faith in Jesus Christ. It's only through His death, burial and resurrection that a person can be saved. It's after you have accepted Christ as your Savior that your're ready to be baptized. While other churches may christen infants, we believe that the Bible teaches that only those who have chosen to follow Christ qualify for baptism. Baptism doesn't make you a Christian, rather it shows that you are already a Christian. It is for these reasons that we do not christen infants.
